Renewable Energy

By 2027, we aim to become a net generator of green energy using bio, solar and hydropower.

Recently we installed 196 solar panels near the site of our bottling plant and rural offices. These will generate 50kW of electricity and save the bottling plant around £4500 a year.

Our biopower generates 250kW, providing enough green energy to power our Pleasure Gardens facilities, greenhouses and offices. This installation, fuelled with wood chip from the Estate, replaced two inefficient oil boilers.

At the Bladon Cascade, a 10-metre Closed Compact Screw system, based on Archimedes’ ancient design, is harnessing the energy of the falling water to supply 78,000kWh a year to homes within the Estate.

As part of our drive to incorporate renewable energy at Blenheim, we have installed two biomass boilers.

We are enlisting the help of 2,500-year-old technology to provide the Estate with ‘green’ hydroelectricity.

Solar energy is the latest in our growing number of renewable sources harnessed on the Estate.
