We joined forces with Barchester Healthcare, which runs more than 240 homes caring for around 12,000 people, to offer its staff and residents free festive entertainment.

The talks were led by our social historian and author Antonia Keaney, who was joined by special guests including TV historian Dan Snow and actress Ruth Madoc.

Topics ranged from fashion and life below stairs to the Palace’s starring role in films including James Bond, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter and Cinderella and Blenheim Christmases through the ages.

“I can’t thank Blenheim Palace and Antonia Keaney enough for working with us to bring such great entertainment to our homes,” said Lucy Tomlinson, Barchester Healthcare’s Resident Experience Manager.

“We have plans to continue bringing virtual events to our residents in 2021 and look forward to seeing what topics, interests and memories we may evoke through providing these and we hope our partnership with Blenheim will continue,” she added.

The events have been welcomed by staff at homes across the UK, who say they have provided a welcome boost to residents at a difficult time.

“The Corrina Lodge community has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Blenheim Palace live stream experience,” said Sharon Rickman, Activities Coordinator at Corinna Lodge Care Home in Camberley, Surrey

“It has sparked memories for some and given an opportunity to others who have not visited before to enjoy the magic of Blenheim. Seeing the interest and enjoyment on the residents’ faces has been priceless,” she added.

Emma Crompton, Activities Coordinator at Bradshaw Manor Care Home in Rhyl, North Wales, said the talks and tours had sparked conversation and lots of happy memories.

“It has been a fantastic opportunity for our residents and something they did not think they would have the opportunity to do,” she said.

We are continuing to offer weekly virtual tours and talks throughout lockdown with a mix of live and recorded sessions available. Live events cost £5, while the recorded sessions are available free.
