Several months ago, our Conservation Cleaning Team noticed that a crack in the ceiling of the Green Writing Room which had grown over the last 12 months and we needed to quickly ensure that no further damage occurs.
These emergency repairs are currently taking place from the room above, the Sunderland Suite. By removing flooring, it means we can access the damaged ceiling, which is being lifted and the plaster refixed to the timbers within the ceiling.
The room itself has now been protected with scaffolding and ceiling props; there is now tunnel in place which all our visitors will walk through whilst this essential repair work takes place. To give our visitors a taste of the Green Writing room, the tunnel has been decorated with the 18th Century silk wallcovering and the decorative ceiling.
