The Green Writing Room

Several months ago, our Conservation Cleaning Team noticed that a crack in the ceiling of the Green Writing Room which had grown over the last 12 months and we needed to quickly ensure that no further damage occurs. These emergency repairs took place from the room above, the Sunderland Suite.

By removing flooring, it meant we could access the damaged ceiling, which was lifted and the plaster refixed to the timbers within the ceiling.

The room itself was protected with scaffolding and ceiling props; there was a tunnel in place which all our visitors could walk through whilst these essential repairs took place. To give our visitors a taste of the Green Writing room, the tunnel was been decorated with the 18th Century silk wallcovering and the decorative ceiling.
